Dr. Kreider is a graduate of Community College of the Air Force, Maxwell Air Force Base, Alabama, with an associate degree in aviation maintenance management. He received his undergraduate degree in industrial technology from Southern Illinois University, Carbondale, Illinois. He continued his education at Wilmington College, Wilmington, Delaware, where he earned his master’s degree in human resources management and his doctorate of education in educational innovation and leadership. Dr. Kreider served in Vietnam as crew chief and forward observer. He was awarded the Bronze Star in 1968, the Meritorious Service Medal in 1987 and a Commendation Medal in 1967, 1976 and 1988. He was selected to receive the Lowell Barrett Award for Excellence in College Education in 1996 and is listed in Who’s Who in American Educators. During his tenure as the fourth president of Colby Community College, a new 160-bed dormitory has been constructed, and land adjacent to the college has been purchased with plans to build a fitness center and wrestling practice facility. The college has successfully obtained several grants including a $1.97 million Title III grant. In addition, the nursing programs on the Colby and Norton campuses have been significantly expanded, a therapeutic massage program was added, and the college has formed several partnerships with four-year universities. Additional programs of study including Entrepreneurship, Emergency Medical Technician and Hospitality Management are available. Dr. Kreider is a member of several community organizations and was selected to be a member of the 2007 Leadership Kansas class. He and his wife Janice have three adult children and two grandchildren. |
