Associate of Applied Science:  Horse Production and Management

This course of study is designed for students who wish to pursue a career in the horse production field, and for students who desire direct entry into occupations relating to the equine industry.  The curriculum involves both classroom and applied study, primarily aimed at the production aspects of the horse industry.  At the end of the program, students take an exam to demostrate competencies needed for success in the chosen vocational area of horse production.  Students pursuing direct entry into the equine industry are expected to complete an 8 to 26 week internship in their chosen field of equine production.  The Associate of Applied Science Degree is awarded to students who fulfill the program requirements.

CCC Horse Production and Management is designed to prepare students for careers in the equine industry.  Students supplement their classroom learning with extensive hands-on experience as they are involved with the daily management of the college’s 60-acre facility.

The CCC horse farm is a breeding, training  and teaching facility.  Horse Production and Management students learn the basics of equine health, genetics, nutrition, reproduction, training, equine event planning, conformation and judging, and equine business.

Horses that are started in the Beginning and Advanced Equine Training classes are sold at the annual CCC Horse Sale.  Students are involved in all areas of sale preparation.

Horse Production and Management students have the opportunity to gain real world experience prior to entering the job market as they complete an internship as part of their curriculum.  Internships provide students with exposure to practical industry experience while specializing in their area of interest within the program.

Several extra-curricular clubs and teams are also offered at CCC.  The CCC Equestrian Team is highly successful and is a popular activity for students in several different majors.  The Equestrian Team is a member of the Intercollegiate Horse Show Association (IHSA) and competes against schools in Zone 7 Region 1.  This includes schools in Oklahoma, Colorado, Wyoming, Nebraska, and Kansas.  Riders on the team can choose to compete in both the Hunt Seat and Western riding disciplines and can compete with any level of riding experience.

Other activities offered in the Agriculture Department are the Livestock Judging Team, Rodeo Team, Rodeo Club, Vet Tech Club, Block & Bridle, and Collegiate Farm Bureau Chapter.
